Question — do you send over your formula with an NDA for them to sign? It’s not even a final formula yet, I need help finalizing it so I am not really concerned but figured I would ask what people tend to do.

    Thanks!

I think is pretty standard practice. In my opinion it’s not nearly as important as some people make it out to be though. An idea w/o execution isn’t worth very much.

I usually do this, sometimes for no other reason than manufacturers seem to expect you to do it and therefore it signals that you’re not naive, although I’ve never thought it amounts to much in the end.

Also – very interesting w/ the feedback about the manufacturers. Thank you!

    Hi @Jonathan et al

So I’ve been talking with a number of manufacturers including
    Axiom http://axiomnutraceuticals.com/
    Noraxsupplements.com
    Healthwrightproducts.com

All very helpful. Waiting on their final pricing and timescales.

Does anyone have an NDA they’d like to share? This is mine but it’s not industry specific so happy for any input if it’s missing something.

Also, anyone have any good experience re insurers in the UK and/or Australia?

All the NDA’s I’ve seen are boilerplate. I attached the one I use, but to be perfectly honest I don’t think there’s a specific one that’s commonly used for the nutraceutical industry.

Keep us up to date on your experience with the manufacturers…..this is always a squirrely issue to get squared away with because information is so discrete.

Will do the same of course. Did you speak with Caroline?

Hi, I am so happy to have found all of you on this thread!
I am in a very similar position, with a liquid supplement/drink idea.

I need to find someone to help with the formula – taste is going to play a key role – and run a small batch to test the waters.

Would Axiom be a good option for this?

Has anyone had any experience with liquid supplements/drinks?

@jonathon I think I read in your blog that you came close to producing a liquid version of your product.

I share the same concerns as @einat with the NDA side of things, but I guess you can’t be too worried about that stuff or it’ll just stay an idea in my head forever, right?

Thanks in advance for any guidance anyone can offer.

1). Thanks for joining this site!

2). Liquids in general are a tougher nut to crack than powders and pills – less stable and typically higher minimums. I’m under the impression that Axiom is more of a standard pills/powders/tablets type manufacturer. I can give you an introduction if you’d like to discuss the issue with someone.

3). I actually DID look to do a liquid product first but the reason I ended up with a powder is that powders are much easier to get started with…..perhaps you can find an exception but I couldn’t turn over any leaves that were useful for me. You’d probably need to find a small local bottling facility to get started…..those can be tricky to find.

4). With regards to the NDA…..I find it’ easiest just to get a template, have your part filled out and attach it to your quote request/initial e-mail.

Also @henry….I believe @franny is looking to do a liquid (If I remember correctly) so you might want to PM her to see if she can help you out.

Okay, I just switched web hosts because mine kept stalling out, and in the process it looks like posts got deleted.

    Hrrmmmmpppphhhh,

trying to get them back, but in the meantime, here’s what’s missing:

1). Axiom is going down in flames. As we can see here: http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/axiom-nutraceuticals-metaugus-inc/newnan-georgia-/axiom-nutraceuticals-metaugus-inc-axiom-jay-connaughton-axiom-nutraceuticals-bka-met-1176323 and here: http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/Metaugus-inc-Jay-Connaughton/cedartown-Georgia-30125/Metaugus-inc-Jay-Connaughton-Axioms-AKA-Metaugus-Sold-us-Fake-products-and-we-have-the-1179708

2). Norax was supposed to be the better alternative, but it turns out they’re the same company as Axiom and the whole thing is shady as hell: http://www.ripoffreport.com/r/Norax-Nutracuticals/Newman-Georgia-30263/Norax-Nutracuticals-Axiom-Metaugus-Natural-Products-Analytics-group-Jay-Connaughton-1208038

Both of those companies should be avoided.

Others are trying out ABH Nature, but with no final word yet.

I’ve spoken w/ Norax, Axiom, cGMP, Bactolac, ABH, Agropur, JW Nutritional, Inner Mountain Nutrition, Herbally Yours and a few others but there’s been so many I honestly forget the other ones. They clearly don’t stand out as of now. I’m going to try a few more and then just go with the best ones.

Right now I’m lining up suppliers for individual ingredients to expand my list of possible manufacturers and give myself bigger initial order runs.

Again, I’m sorry for the lost posts…….it’s a royal PITA, but it’s over now.

@angelawright – I would suggest you take notice since I believe you mentioned something about speaking w/ Norax.

I think I was one of the people that got their posts deleted. That stinks. I think @henry and @einat also wrote something here that got lost.

I’m rpeating myself but thanks again for this info since it’s so hard to find honest info about these guys. Do you have a manufacturer that you’d call your favorite so far?

    Hello all,

I’m looking to produce a liquid supplement.

I have an idea of the key ingredients and taste is definitely going to be a factor.

The thing is I haven’t had a reply from a single manufacturer.

As a one man start-up I’m probably too small for them to bother replying.

Has anyone had any experience formulating a product to get the taste right before producing a first minimum run batch?

Thanks in advance for any thoughts or guidance

Are there any particular ingredients you’re concerned about? Most manufacturers include taste-testing as part of the price. Sometimes it requires an extra down-payment, sometimes not. It just depends on their policies.

If not, doing it the bucket way is probably a good way to go. Go to pipingrock or someplace like that and get all the ingredients individually and mix it yourself.

Hi everyone, thanks for the heads up on all this.

    I love this forum :)

I was speaking with both companies so I just sent them the ripoff review link and asked them outright if they’re genuine:

Caroline at Norax says, “Speaking for myself, I am most definitely genuine. I am an independent rep who truly believes in the moral character & abilities of Norax.

Regarding the online comment you refer to… Yes, Norax is aware of this. The issue happened last year… before Norax had even started. I believe there was an issue with price… the customer was misquoted by a rep there & luckily this was caught in time & the product couldn’t be made at that price. The customer was upset & wrote this letter. I am sure if you explore online you will see many companies with letters such as this as you cannot make everyone happy… whether the issue of the unhappiness is justified …or not. Ray would be happy to explain further in more detail what happened as this is the only info I know about the issue.”

Dana at Axiom said, “As far as the link. Axiom bought the lab formerly known as Metaugus from Jay and have no association with him in any form anymore.”

My other company specialises in online reputations so I know that not all bad reviews/grievances are accurate. Although it’s hard in this day and age to trust any company which neglects it’s reputation and doesn’t have a strategy to deal with bad rep like ripoff report and enabling their genuine happy customers to be heard, outweighing the oddball. I spent three years perfecting my reputation optimisation strategy for genuine businesses, because 3/4s of us (and Google) believe what people say online not what the business says. So getting a Five Star Reputation is vital for business nowadays.

Ref manufacturers, it’s a case of “buyer beware” as always and making up one’s own mind.

Speaking personally, for our next capsule production, we need a production facility which is also GMP NSF (sport accredited) – neither Axiom nor Norax are NSF although both are GMP. Currently I’m talking with http://healthwrightproducts.com/ who appear very professional so fingers crossed.

    Hope this helps.

PS our supplements and frequency company is still prelaunch but we’re getting great feedback from users and have a rewarding affiliate sales structure (MOST DEFINITELY NOT MLM) in place – supplements not conflicting with anyone else’s in this forum from what I can see. Plus we have unique Frequency products. Perfect complementary products. Supplements manufactured in the USA so all compliant for you Americans :) If anyone wants to know more, please PM me (unless Jonathan says it’s OK for me to post links).

    @angelawright,

Thanks for this balanced reply. Let us know how the conversations go.

I’m currently speaking with ABH Nature and Lief Organics about their quotes, and honestly I think after that I’m going to make a choice with the best one. I’m out West right now and will be leaving early June, and I’m going to use that time to visit the east coast manufacturers and wire in the money.

As for the links…..knock yourself out. I’d recommend posting something in the marketing thread though, since it’s more appropriate there.

    Hello All,

Has anyone had experiences or want to their 2 cents on working with companys overseas, such as in China, Japan, or Korea? Would you if they were FDA GMP certified? Alibaba will turn up a number of companies and while all of them can’t be quality suppliers, have quality ingredients, or just be honest, some could. Thoughts?

I looked into a few Chinese manufacturers but found that when you get to the ones that have the necessary certifications to make sure you’re not getting ripped off a lot of the price advantages go away.

IMO dealing directly with China is not something you should do until you’re ready and able to do a lot of groundwork to make sure you’re working with reputable people.

I actually entertained the idea of spending a few months there this year to visit various labs and growers but won’t be able to fit it in my schedule. Maybe next……
