“When I get a few ducks lined up I’ll be looking to start my own affiliate program pretty soon. With the idea that it’ll follow a pretty stiff 90/10 rule.”

out of curiosity what does the 90/10 rule refer to here? does it mean you’ll be applying 10 percent of your effort to seeing whether you can get some affiliate traction, or does it refer to…[Read more]

out of curiosity what does the 90/10 rule refer to here? does it mean you’ll be applying 10 percent of your effort to seeing whether you can get some affiliate traction, or does it refer to something else?

also, how would you make your program attractive to affiliates, and what kind of affiliates would you target? i’m guessing it’s people who…[Read more]

  • i notice that Purple Dragon has been out of stock for weeks. i was considering ordering some when i re-upped my Incredible Mood supply a few weeks back.

just out of curiosity, how do you go about trying to keep things in stock and how long does it take for your inventory to be restocked once you realize you’re about to go out of stock?

    does the…[Read more]

  • hi Jonathan. i was asked by someone the other day about the source of D3 in supplements and so i had to educate myself because i had assumed it was probably manufactured though a clever biochemical process. instead, as best i can make out, most D3 is derived from lanolin, the oily substance on sheep wool.

i have no problem with lanolin-derived…[Read more]

hi Sally. i would say that if you are just starting out you should not put too much faith in the ability of affiliates to sell your product.

in general they won’t bother to seriously promote your supplement unless you have proven to them that you can sell it yourself and that there is a strong market for it.

also, you have to be VERY careful…[Read more]

Jonathan – i’d say it’s closer to the muckracking and roll the dice end of the spectrum myself. there are people out there that one can point one’s finger to and say “he’d be great to work with on this” but getting their attention or being able to afford the “entry fee” required to roll that dice is a show stopper. when i get some time i’ll email…[Read more]

no, but i’m trying to move towards it. i promised myself for a long time that i’d find some non-Google, non-Facebook paid ad platform and try to master it so that i’d always have a source of traffic i could fall back on when needed. selling health related products on G and F is like trying to tip toe through a mine field. so i’m going to start…[Read more]

in the past i’ve watched “over the shoulder” through webinar style videos as a top-notch media buyer explained his approach to buying mass traffic for supplements, and in his particular case i remember thinking that his numbers suggested he was paying around $70 or so to get a conversion from quality traffic that was responding to banner ads. i…[Read more]

  • i’d say that before you think about PDF generation do the permanent database backend. that’s the more useful bit. then you can look at the PDF stuff once the data is on a solid footing (like stored away in a MySQL database).

i’m reminded of a job i had to do for a finance company about a decade ago. every quarter they would assign a team of about…[Read more]

  • hi Jonathan. i was playing around with the FA and it seems very useful.

the only thing missing from it that would make it really useful is a formula cache. it would be nice to be able to name a formula (e.g. Incredible Mood), enter all the details in, then come back in the future and be able to reselect that specific formula from a drop down menu…[Read more]

  • on the subject of liability insurance, Jonathan, i think i read in one of your blog posts (or i inferred from what you said) that you have separate liability insurance for you business, and don’t rely strictly on an inclusion in a manfacturer’s policy. is that correct? could you say a little about your approach to that issue? i’d be interested to…[Read more]

  • it doesn’t sound like a great idea to me. for one thing, presumably you still have to set up liability insurance for you supplement business even though you are reselling someone else’s product (since it now has your label on it) and that runs in the region of $5K or more.

plus there are a host of other issues that surround running any business,…[Read more]

  • hi Jonathan. if i should have received an email i did not, i don’t think (does this forum software send out notifications of PMs?). anyway you can always email me directly if needed.

as far as physics goes i have a Ph.D. in quantum optics, but it’s so long ago that i barely remember what a quantum is :)

  • hi Jonathan,

thanks for activating my membership in the forums. it’s great to find a small health supplement community run by someone with a biochemistry background who formulates his own products. i decided to go all in and purchase some of your Incredible Mood product to see what’s got you all excited, and to also see if it actually produces…[Read more]
